Usually the cities of Geneva, Lyon, Chambery and Grenoble are seen as little more than hubs for holiday makers to fly into and then travel on to the nearby ski resorts. There are several ski resorts within a easy drive from these places.

Chambery is the closest airport to the Three Valleys ski area. There is a lovely old medieval part to the town and it is small enough to walk around on foot. Close to the airport there is Lake Bourget, the largest natural lake in France and a thermal spa resort and set in lovely nature. The region is covered in vineyards and famous for its wine production. If you can find flights into Chambery then your onwards journey is just an hour through mountains and countryside. Of course, being nearer to the ski areas, Chambery airport transfers are much cheaper than from other airports.
